2012 Revealed – January 10, 2012

The year of relationship: Your relationships with others are a reflection of your inner relationship with yourself.  To what extent do you feel seen and understood for who you really are? Do you feel valued? Do you feel authentic?  To what extent are you willing to step outside of your comfort zone in order to express yourself more freely? More honestly? Did you make compromises in the past because you were programmed to think it was the ‘right’ thing to do but secretly feel resentful?  Are you afraid of being perceived as selfish for being honest?  If you’re engaging in this evolutionary process, you’re likely to experience the exhilarating effects of energy shifts at work.  If not, you may feel stifled, anxious, confused or depressed.

In my 15 years in the counseling field, the ultimate consequences that I’ve seen from honesty come as opportunities to go deeper through whatever crisis or tension surfaces.  Feelings that do not have a voice or creative outlet turn into anxiety, sadness, fatigue or insomnia, a variety of health problems that can be difficult to pin-point, irrational thinking, passive aggressive and obsessive-compulsive behaviors as well as addictive patterns. The latter may come in forms such as food, drink, spending money, unconnected sex, co-dependency and so forth. Our society is highly addicted!

The year of social and personal change: With Uranus and Pluto coming into perfect square, we’re in for a real whammy!  In an attempt to advocate for our causes, break free, do our true life’s work and express ourselves more honestly, to what extent is our need to control, destroy, and criticize others coming out?  To what extent are we being righteous? How much collateral damage are we creating in the process of making change? Is it necessary? It saddens me to see many participants in the Occupy Movement engaging in violent and destructive behavior and closing down businesses that put blue-collar workers out of income. It frustrates me to see (some) politicians spending more energy putting each other down than working toward real world solutions.  It saddens me to hear so many of my alternative healing colleagues vehemently criticizing traditional medical and mental health practitioners without acknowledging (or even understanding) some of the wonderful work that is happening or the ways in which the financial and insurance systems have created many of the problems in healthcare – much less trying to deepen their own professional knowledge by learning from those practitioners. It’s harmful when couples who are separating are unwilling to respectfully work together in the process for the benefit of their children. We are learning how to express ourselves from our hearts – not our need for survival or control!

2012 will bring great changes of a heart-centered nature.

Aligning with change: Breath into your heart. Feel your feet on the floor beneath you. Release the tension and desire for control. Identify the bigger picture. Connect to the loving place inside your heart and soul that desires to feel more peaceful and more complete. Identify where you can make changes within yourself and accept responsibility for that. Imagine a warm glow in your heart center. Imagine a more peaceful and abundant outcome without attachment to ‘how’ or ‘logistics.’ You might be amazed at how much change can occur by practicing that simple exercise regularly!  In 2012, we’re also learning about how we regulate our own energy and how that impacts circumstances around us.

As for the classic predictions that people ask about: Yes, there will be more natural disasters as the energies of the earth realign and people are called to remember what’s really important and come together for global humanity. Northern Japan, Alaska, and either Southern Europe or the Middle East appear most vulnerable to me at this time. Late season storms (late winter or spring) will impact the Midwest and Northeastern United States. California will likely experience 1-2 moderate earthquakes (I’m sensing one in south and one central to northern) which will raise fears and talks of the ‘big one.’ The US presidential race will be increasingly contentious, a likely third candidate will make a decision by summer as to whether he’ll run and there will be a profound moment of truth and realization that surfaces in a debate between the final candidates that will add a great deal of clarity for many who are on the fence.  I see this happening closer to fall.  Financial markets will continue to struggle though home foreclosures will slow by mid-year because the banks are in over their heads and are not equipped to handle so many properties. This will result in new mortgage programs generated by the banks themselves.  I also see a small to medium sized bank gaining popularity for its consumer friendly practices.  Credit unions will continue to grow in popularity. New legislation will continue to impact banking and credit cards. Those companies will resist and try to regain capital through other fees but the public isn’t going to buy it. Apple computer is likely to receive bad press for one of its new products. This will raise talks about whether the passing of Steve Jobs left the company in dire straits, however the consumer focused tech giant will quickly resolve the issue and utilize a clever PR campaign to address the issue, and stocks are likely to increase again by the end of the year. The United States will be more pressured to pull out of Afghanistan, though politicians will try to avoid acknowledging that financial constraints are a major factor due to fear of letting the world know that even the super power United States doesn’t have infinite resources. The trend for greener vehicles will continue. Chrysler will continue to decline in sales and smaller Japanese auto makers (Mazda, Nissan, and perhaps a new or lesser known make) as well as Korean and Chinese automakers will grow globally. Diesel fuel and fuel alternatives will hit the news with greater discussion.

* I’ll likely write more about the US presidential election and Uranus-Pluto Square in the months ahead.
